With his autobiographical work ‘Dreams’, artist Marborsing from Mairang captures a poignant moment in his life when his dream of becoming a musician was thwarted. He says, “we all dreamt of becoming someone else, but when that dream is shattered it’s like breaking one’s own promise.”

Through this elongated vase, artist Andrasphera Kharmawlong shows the vibrations we go through everyday. The linear lines moving up, down and sideways reflect the many situations one meets. Andras believes that there are vibrations in every single flow of time spent. As humans we have the luxury to shape and reshape them.

Eri silk—a soft, lustrous fabric with thermal properties to keep one cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The Cocoon Collection, for instance, is made from two different naturally found tones of Eri—a creamy white, and a rarer red Eri that creates a soft nude beige tone. In some of the pieces, Iba used a blend of both to create yet another tone that seamlessly merges into the wearer.

Local stone from Nongstoin was beautifully sculpted by craftsman Darsing using hand made tools.

Garo artist, Arak Sangma highlights the oppression faced by same sex couples in society, and their alienation as represented by the stitches. The pain, lack of identity, and rejection can create a sense of hopelessness and a want of desire to live.

I like portraying wild untouched nature and preserving the images of harmony, mutuality and co-existence that are fast-disappearing.
— Jana Bednarova

Jana Bednarova is a visual artist from Slovakia, currently living and painting in North East India. She loves taking expeditions to the countryside of Meghalaya and Assam and bringing her canvas into the wild. Her works tell the story about the existence of the jungle, which can inspire humans for survival with its biodiversity and ability to grow in very difficult terrain. “I like portraying wild untouched nature and preserving the images of harmony, mutuality and co-existence that are fast-disappearing.”
