Cocoon
Collection

The cocoon-inspired silhouettes remind us to embrace who we are, as a starting point for creativity.

In the Cocoon Collection, designer Iba Mallai unfolds a time in her life when she felt far away from herself, striving to ‘fit in’, to belong. In her journey to find a place of comfort, she understood that accepting oneself was the only way to truly belong.

The cocoon-inspired silhouettes remind us to embrace who we are, as a starting point for creativity.

The collection is made with handwoven eri silk from Meghalaya, also known as peace silk or non-violent silk, as the silkworms are not killed in the process of fiber extraction. The simplicity of the textile is enhanced by the use of a local weaving technique known as ‘khnong’ which lends a subtle texture to the fabric. The designs are created with zero-waste draping techniques where the fabric is uncut or minimally cut.

Iba Mallai

Meghalaya-based designer Iba Mallai believes in responsible fashion at every step of the creation from fiber, to textile, to design and clothing. Drawing inspiration from her rich traditions and folklore from Ri Bhoi district, Iba’s love for nature and craft has continued through her journey as a designer. It is this deep love for heritage and aesthetics that are behind her clothing line ‘Iba Mallai’ which is focused on creating clean, minimal, and relaxed silhouettes for the modern woman.
